Christmas in July: A Cosy Winter Weekend with GOOD

BY: GOOD.

While Christmas in Australia usually means sunshine, barbecues and trips to the beach, there’s something undeniably special about embracing the winter wonderland atmosphere we’ve grown up seeing in Christmas movies. That’s why Christmas in July has become such a beloved tradition – an excuse to enjoy all the cosy comforts of a northern hemisphere Christmas without waiting until December.

This weekend, why not gather the family, pull out the blankets, switch on the fairy lights and enjoy a Christmas movie marathon with GOOD? Whether you’re revisiting old favourites or discovering heartwarming new stories, Christmas movies have a unique way of bringing people together. They’re filled with hope, kindness, laughter and the reminder that the most meaningful moments are often shared with the people we love.

Create the Perfect Christmas in July Weekend

Turn an ordinary winter weekend into a memorable family event with a few simple touches.

Make it Cosy

Transform your living room into a winter retreat with soft blankets, cushions, candles or twinkling fairy lights. Encourage everyone to wear their favourite Christmas pyjamas or winter jumpers and create a comfortable space for a day of festive viewing.

Plan a Christmas Movie Marathon

Choose a mix of family favourites, heartwarming dramas and uplifting holiday stories from the CHRISTMAS IN JULY on GOOD. Add an interval between movies for games, treats or a family dinner, and let everyone vote for their favourite film of the day.

Enjoy Some Winter Comfort Food

One of the best things about Christmas in July is the chance to enjoy the rich, warming foods that often feel too heavy during an Australian summer Christmas.

Indulgent Hot Chocolate Bar

Set up a simple hot chocolate station where everyone can customise their own mug.

Ingredients
  • 4 cups milk
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 100g dark chocolate, chopped
  • Whipped cream
  • Marshmallows
  • Cinnamon for sprinkling
Method

Heat the milk, cocoa and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until smooth, then add the chocolate and continue stirring until melted. Pour into mugs and let everyone add their favourite toppings.

Slow-Cooked Winter Beef Stew

Perfect for a chilly evening after a day of Christmas movies.

Ingredients
  • 1kg beef chuck steak, diced
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp thyme
Method

Place all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook on low for 7–8 hours. Serve with crusty bread and enjoy a hearty winter meal the whole family will love.

Gingerbread Slice

All the flavours of Christmas with far less effort than baking individual biscuits.

Ingredients
  • 250g plain sweet biscuits, crushed
  • 125g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 395g condensed milk
Method

Mix all ingredients together, press into a lined slice tin and refrigerate until firm. Cut into squares and serve with tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Celebrate the Joy of Christmas – Twice a Year!

Christmas in July isn’t about replacing Christmas in December. It’s about taking a moment during the middle of winter to slow down, connect with family and enjoy the warmth, joy and hope that Christmas stories bring.
