GOOD’s Do GOOD Partner for March is Queensland-based environmental education organisation Ten Little Pieces.

Ten Little Pieces is more than a catchy name. It represents a simple and powerful philosophy that inspires individuals, families, schools and communities to take meaningful action for the planet. At the heart of the organisation’s work is a belief that little actions, taken consistently and collectively, create powerful positive change for people and the natural world.

Through education, practical tools and community engagement, Ten Little Pieces supports people to turn environmental awareness into everyday sustainable habits.

A Vision for a Healthy, Thriving Planet

The vision of Ten Little Pieces is a world where people and wildlife flourish together in a healthy, sustainable environment.

The organisation focuses on empowering practical action around issues such as plastic pollution, waste, consumption patterns and environmental stewardship. By helping people understand the science behind these challenges and providing simple ways to respond, Ten Little Pieces supports communities to care for nature in ways that feel achievable and hopeful.

The message is clear: every person has the power to contribute through little positive actions.

How It All Began

Ten Little Pieces began with a simple moment on Noosa Main Beach.

Founder Alison Foley was packing up after a day at the beach with her children when they asked for ice cream. She told them they could have one if they collected ten little pieces of rubbish first.

To her surprise, the children returned with their hands full of litter. The moment sparked a conversation about consumption, waste and the impact rubbish has on the environment.

That little challenge became a powerful idea. Friends, families and schools began taking up the concept of collecting ten little pieces, turning a simple act into a shared habit of care for the natural world.

What began as a family moment has grown into a movement that encourages people everywhere to notice their surroundings and take responsibility for protecting them.

Education and Community Action

Today, Ten Little Pieces delivers a range of sustainability and environmental education programs designed to inspire curiosity, connection and action.

Programs are delivered to early learners, primary and high school students, families and community groups, with experiences that combine environmental science with engaging, hands-on learning.

Participants explore topics including:

• ocean literacy and marine debris

• biodiversity and interconnected ecosystems

• circular economy thinking and waste reduction

• responsible consumption

• climate and environmental stewardship

Through practical activities, storytelling and real-world learning, Ten Little Pieces helps people of all ages understand how their choices influence the health of the planet.

Whether someone is picking up ten little pieces of litter with their children, learning about biodiversity at school or exploring ways to reduce waste at home, the message remains the same: little actions matter.

Global Connections, Local Impact

Rooted in the Sunshine Coast biosphere, Ten Little Pieces connects local action with global environmental challenges.

The organisation engages with international initiatives and networks focused on plastic pollution and sustainability, including communities connected to 5 Gyres, Plastic Pollution Coalition, the Jane Goodall Institute and the UNEP Global Partnership on Marine Litter.

These connections support the sharing of knowledge, ideas and practical solutions that help communities care for the natural world.
