POPULAR THEORY – Smart, Funny & Full of Heart

BY: GOOD.

If you’ve ever felt awkward, out of place, or completely uncool in high school… POPULAR THEORY might just become your new favourite family movie.

Now streaming on GOOD, this bright and quirky comedy follows Erwin, a 12-year-old science genius who’s skipped multiple grades and landed in high school — where fitting in turns out to be far harder than chemistry. When she teams up with fellow science whiz Winston, the pair invent a formula they believe could finally unlock the secret to popularity… and naturally, chaos follows.

What makes POPULAR THEORY so enjoyable is that underneath all the hilarious experiments, social disasters, and science-fair antics, there’s a genuinely sweet story about friendship, identity, and learning that being accepted matters far less than being yourself.

The film has a classic family-movie feel – colourful, fast-paced, and full of charm – with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments for kids while still offering enough heart and cleverness for parents to enjoy too. Sophia Reid-Gantzert is wonderfully endearing as Erwin, perfectly balancing awkward brilliance with vulnerability, while Lincoln Lambert brings warmth and humour as Winston. Together, their chemistry (pun absolutely intended 😄) carries the whole movie.

There’s also something refreshing about a family film that celebrates intelligence and curiosity without making it feel “uncool”. Science becomes part of the fun here, mixed with themes of belonging, kindness, confidence, and discovering what really matters. The movie cleverly uses humour and science to explore friendship and the emptiness of chasing popularity alone.

And while the premise is delightfully silly at times, POPULAR THEORY never loses its heart. It’s wholesome, uplifting, funny, and just the kind of feel-good movie that works perfectly for a family movie night.

If your family enjoys films with:

  • quirky humour 😂
  • lovable underdogs 💛
  • school hijinks 🎒
  • science fun ⚗️
  • and positive messages about friendship and belonging 🤝

…then POPULAR THEORY is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
