Season 12 Ep10 Recap – Hazelnuts and Heartbreak
BY: Rach Kayrooz for GOOD.
The students are loving Elizabeth’s new curriculum, with plans for their own Marvel comic book based on Macbeth, all in the name of a pleasing outcome.

It’s all a bit too much for LJ, who’s napping, whilst Emily is stuck on an idea for her project.
Nathan visits with the news of his promotion to Chief Constable.

Edie pops by to see Lucas, who has received a summons for court. Basically, he’s being sued for creating a park. Maybe by the Disney company?
Edie has resigned from representing McGinty, who has given her 3 days to pay off her uncle’s debt, or the ranch is his.
Rosie is running down the street in another fabulous frock, chasing Judge Avery for commentary on the Garrison arrests, only to be interrupted by Inspector Georgie, who is back in town.

Lucas and Nathan plan to visit the ranchers and McGinty, to discuss the situation.
Emily takes Elizabeth on a tour of the Hazelnut Farms outdoor factory.

Our Emily is quite the business-savvy young woman, saving the saplings with sawdust and reading up on the Wall Street Journal and Agricultural Business Magazine. Next week, we’ll see her on Shark Tank.
Mike and Mei are making a fabulous mess, recreating recipes from both their families’ cookbooks.
And making the kitchen a rather awkward place for Minnie…

Nathan and Lucas ride up to meet McGinty along the way, with our Mountie holding the Governor back from knocking the old rancher out of his boots. McGinty goes on to accuse Allie of trespassing, and now it’s Lucas holding Nathan back!

Nathan talks to Allie about the situation, and she states she intends to pay the fine and make things right, before Nathan can respond.
Mike and Mei are at The Mercantile, but Ned’s all out of lotus paste, almonds, walnuts, raccoons, raisins, and comic books.

Molly has told the town that the Hickams are hosting a Fall Festival, much to Mike and Mei’s surprise.
They decide to use up the hazelnuts and make it a Hope Valley Hazelnut Harvest Festival.
LJ has a conflicting social calendar, to either go riding with Nathan, or join the boys in the Junior League baseball team. And he’s definitely got a taste for all things sweet.

Poor Emily forgot about the deadline for college applications, with Florence breaking the news to her at The Mercantile.
Meanwhile, Bill and Georgie are questioning Woody, who easily confesses to being the lookout in the Great Train Robbery. Apparently, Jake blindfolded Woody and others, taking them into the woods to bury the stolen loot. So, it’s likely Woody doesn’t know where the gold is hidden, and will never see a dime.

Allie comes to visit Elizabeth, expressing she’d like to change her wolf project to something different. She’s worried the research is causing problems for her dad and the National Park. Elizabeth points out that it’s the ranchers polluting the stream and McGinty needs to take responsibility for what he’s been doing.

Mike auditions for The Voice in Minnie’s Café for judge Rosie.

Rosemary whinges to Minnie about being excluded from the Garrison investigation, as she clearly doesn’t understand boundaries.

Elizabeth and Allie visit Nathan at the station, with Oliver chiming in that McGinty’s using one small violation to cover up a bigger one of his own – the hidden pasture. The path there has been forcibly blocked by ash trees that have been cut down on someone else’s land and moved there by McGinty.
It turns out the only ash trees are on Lee’s property, and that trespassing is allowed if it’s in pursuit of a crime.

Bill comes to chat with Lee about McGinty. The feeling seems mutual with everyone who has met the crafty old rancher.

Emily visits Elizabeth to pour her heart out over missing the deadline for Teachers’ College applications. Though, she’s not even sure it’s what she wants to do. The young student pays her teacher an incredible compliment.

Elizabeth reminds Emily that her future is hers to decide, and she has a great mind for business.
Bill and Henry confront Arthur McGinty over the ash trees.

They bring Lee in to add further evidence, and gently intimidate McGinty.

What a team! Bill offers mean McGinty a better deal than he deserves.
The town gather at the Saloon for the first ever HV Hazelnut Festival, with table décor from Ned’s Kmart stash and the Hickam wedding.

Romance is in the air, or the food, as Mike surprises Mei with tickets to Niagara Falls for a second honeymoon, while Molly impresses Jed with her prune, or was that moon, cookies.

Nathan comforts Allie with knowing her heart was in the right place, and reassures his daughter that all will be okay. Bill’s arrival with the news that all charges are dropped provides further relief, and a lingering look of gratitude from Allie to Oliver.
Inspector Georgie arrives at the dinner to congratulate Rosie on her part in creating the undercover character for Nathan.

LJ is playing baseball outside at dusk with the boys. Nathan calls him over to gift his own childhood baseball mitt.

Georgie relays to Bill that she’s always admired the way he respects women and it’s one of the reasons she felt the way she did about him all those years ago, and still does. She realises Bill has a life in HV, and that she can’t ask him to come with her. However, as the case is still open, she may be back. We all hope so!

Then this happens!

Finally, a romance for Judge Avery!
But then Georgie leaves in an Uber! What?!
Rosie saw the romantic encounter, and encourages Bill to work together to solve the Garrison crime and find the gold, so Georgie will return.
Nathan, Elizabeth and Rosie are walking down the main street, when the older boys run up with shocking news that LJ has disappeared.
A search party head out for Jack, with Nathan finding him passed out in the woods. 😱

They get him to the infirmary, where Faith takes some samples and has Mei take them to Buxton. She suspects dehydration, heat stroke, or diabetes.

Mei calls through with the results, prompting Faith to go immediately to Elizabeth’s house.

As she relays the news to Elizabeth and Nathan, every Heartie can feel Elizabeth’s heartbreak. It’s diabetes.
