Season 12 Ep12 Recap – When Wishes Come True
BY: Rach Kayrooz for GOOD.
Spring is almost over in Hope Valley, the insulin treatment is working well, and LJ is happily playing catch with Nathan outdoors.

Timmy confesses his feelings to Emily, whose busy schedule as the Nutella CEO doesn’t leave much time for dating.

Nathan and Elizabeth take a stroll and ponder over the upcoming summer, with our favourite teacher asking what all Hearties want to know, now that season 12 is at an end:

Nathan grabs a PDA moment, with the couple deciding it’s time for some fun. He begins by ditching work to walk Elizabeth to school.

The Moonlighting detective duo of Avery and Coulter are holding their morning meeting, with Rosie demanding to know where the gold is. Perhaps for Lee to order her more jewellery?

Rosie is convinced Edie Martel knows more than she’s letting on, and prepares to interview her for The Valley Voice.
Nathan is recommending Oliver graduate with Honours, due to his heroic work in exposing McGinty’s scheme and bringing down the Garrisons. The young Cadet is to be transferred to Fort McNeil, but will this mean an end to his budding romance with Allie?

Rosie is chatting to Edie, who is hot-desking at Bill’s, where she found a stack of Nutella bars and Bruce Willis on vinyl.

The students are showcasing their Graduation projects to the town. Lucas is adamant that Elizabeth’s program must be in the state curriculum.
Nathan hears the complimentary banter between his daughter and Oliver. Meanwhile, Angela is spruiking the benefits of music on plant life.

Minnie’s having a hard time processing her daughter’s pending departure to the Schwartzman school, but the women are planning a surprise ladies’ night – complete with karaoke, mocktails, and 80s reruns.

Mike, aka the party crasher, invites himself along.

LJ’s grandma (Jack’s mum, Charlotte) sent a letter to advise Elizabeth she is now in Cape Fullerton, where the hospital has a top-notch insulin lab. Gran is concerned that her daughter-in-law is not moving to the city with LJ for his diabetes management. Elizabeth ponders her decision to stay in HV.
Rosie and Goldie provide their dear friend with advice on handling a mother-in-law.

Mike and Mei are asking Cooper and Toby about Angela’s favourite dessert. They’re interrupted by Minnie, with Mike doing his best “I’m not spoiling a secret, but I kind of am” routine.

Edie and the Governor are playing cards at the Saloon, as the lawyer awaits her next class action lawsuit. Lucas makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

She confides in Lucas that her late Uncle Ernie may have left her an illegal, hidden treasure!
Rosie, Nathan, and Bill review the crayon map. Bill’s theory of Ernie seeing the treasure being buried and digging it up later, only to move it elsewhere, is the breakthrough to this case. What’s that about a wishing well?

Nathan visits Elizabeth’s for a late-night kiss and a cup of Nescafe. She shares that her curriculum improved all the student grades, except for Oliver. Did the Cadet purposely try to flunk his final exam, so he doesn’t graduate and leave HV?

Nathan leads an overwhelmed Elizabeth in a breathing exercise he got from an app.

Then he gets all romantic and talks about sunsets, love, and mushy stuff, like always being together in Hope Valley. Little does he realise, Elizabeth is struggling with the decision of what’s best for LJ – to stay, or leave for Cape Fullerton?
Elizabeth visits Oliver at the stables, where he confesses that he tried to fail his exams, as he never had the chance to be a kid. She reassures him that it’s okay to take some time before going out into the world, and to treasure that.
Lucas and Edie are at her uncle’s cabin, discovering one of the stolen coins in his penny jar.

They make their way outside to the well, with Bill, Rosie and Nathan arriving shortly after. The group begin digging, in search of the missing loot, with Rosie as site supervisor.

They find the treasure chest and take it back to the station. Bill forces the lock open, the box full of stolen coins.
Edie discovers a hidden message from Ernie in the map. They discover that her late uncle used the money to keep the ranch, and put her through law school. The ladies (and gate-crasher Mike) are at Minnie’s for what sounds like an intervention. They each contributed to a quilt for Angela to take to college, including a panel in Braille.

Minnie is overwhelmed at the thought of her daughter leaving for college. The friends surround her, bringing reassurances of comfort and support.
It’s time for Angela, Emily, and Timmy’s graduation at the Saloon. These kids spend more time in a bar than the classroom!

As the students party away on the dance floor, Lee and co surprise Mike and Mei with a basket of funds for their third attempt at a honeymoon, this time in Miami!

Nathan offers Oliver the opportunity to stay another year in HV and be his Deputy.

Allie runs over and asks Oliver to dance, confirming their feelings are mutual. And that Nathan’s hair is about to turn grey.
Lucas springs the news on Elizabeth there’ll be no summer holiday for her yet, as she must prepare to present her curriculum at the education conference. Elizabeth’s not sure if she can take LJ away for 3 days. Nathan offers to stay and look after him.
Edie pops in with the hope to clean up in poker, and is instead greeted by Lucas who has summoned up the courage to finally show his cards. Is he the King of Hearts?

Allie gives Angela a poem she wrote in Braille about how much she’ll miss her dear friend. They make a pact to write letters and chat over Insta.
Ned changes tempo on the vinyl, much to everyone’s joy, except for Florence, who thinks Ned should stop trying to be hip. Or he may actually hurt his hip.

The entire Saloon is now abuzz with The Charleston!

Only a short time later, Elizabeth is telling LJ all about Pembroke Falls, when she notices her son not responding. Rosemary and Faith soon arrive to help, with the doctor relaying the news that this week’s supply of insulin wasn’t refrigerated properly in transit.
Elizabeth decides she needs to get LJ to the lab in Cape Fullerton, leaving right away. But will she and LJ return?

While the men are out looking for Nathan, Minnie delivers food for the trip. She provides some mother-to-mother advice to Elizabeth.
The taxi arrives to take Elizabeth and LJ to the train station. Nathan still hasn’t returned from his rounds, so Rosie passes Elizabeth’s letter onto Allie. Minutes later, Nathan arrives, and Allie gives him the note.

As Elizabeth’s taxi travels onward, two town cars follow close behind, with Nathan and Allie jumping out of one and into Elizabeth’s. As Allie declares that “family sticks together”, Nathan tells Elizabeth, “We’ll figure it out together. Where you go, I go.”

And all the while, LJ wonders, did Mum remember to pack the iPad?
Memorable Quotes:
Elizabeth (to Oliver): “Even when you are a boring grown-up like me, you can still play and be silly.”
Lucas (reading the hidden message on the treasure map): “Because of all the Martel’s, dearest Edie, you are the brightest one with the biggest heart.”
Elizabeth (to the graduates): “No matter where your futures take you, you will always have friends here to come home to.”
Nathan (to Elizabeth): “You can lean on me a bit more.”
Minnie (to Elizabeth): “Why God, did you give me your hardest battles? It’s because you are His strongest soldier.”
