Season 12 Ep3 Recap – Oh nuts!

BY: Rach Kayrooz for GOOD.

Toby and Cooper kicked Rosie off the airwaves, to host The Valley Voice Radio Hour Kids’ Minute.

The next gen of fempreneurs – Opal, Angela, and tech CEO Emily – launched a street cart for the newly ASX-listed Hope Valley Hazelnut Company, and everyone is loving it!  Except Jed, whose farm stall is now out of business.

Nathan is planning a Tinkerbell and pony-themed party for Allie’s 17th birthday, while she’s hoping for a parent-free party and a fake ID.

Nathan and Elizabeth step into his office to discuss a kid-free date, only to be interrupted by Oliver, another kid, and discover the young Cadet needs some help with his writing.

Florence is spilling the tea to Rosie, that Molly may have a ‘thing’ for Jed.  Or she just likes his potatoes.

Ned is imitating a one-eyed eagle, as he discovers a rare, double-headed, eagle coin.

Edie Martell has taken all the Committee votes and reduced Goldie National Park to a playground.  This upsets Lucas, but Edwin can only think about fishing.

Jeanette’s trial is coming up. Will the media’s portrayal of scandal overshadow the good work Lucas is trying to accomplish?  Edwin holds back the hordes and sends Lucas on a rural quest to outback Australia.

Oliver seeks help from Elizabeth with his writing, while Bill questions Rosie over her article on the eagle coin.  The Judge then breaches privacy laws by disclosing Lee had a new will drawn up, that makes no provisions for Rosie’s wardrobe allowance.

Lucas has an unexpected guest in his train cabin – Edie. She’s headed to Uncle Ernie’s ranch, to find Bert.  The Governor doesn’t want to see her, or her fancy spectacles, ever again.

Faith must have landed a side job as an Amazon delivery driver, cos she’s back to carrying boxes.  It seems Lee has been future-proofing his life all about town, without telling Rosie. But no one got Lee’s memo.

Elizabeth makes enquiries about Oliver’s story of attending school in Hamilton.  Surprise, surprise, it doesn’t check out.

There’s a new teen bad boy in town, Earl Wyatt.  Opal is not impressed, though Allie has an instant crush.  Enter Nathan.

Lucas returns to his Hope Valley branch office, only to find it’s been converted to a storage room for Henry’s hazelnuts.  Minus the squirrels.

Elizabeth approaches Oliver in the library, and he confesses to never attending school.  Despite declaring he now has a teacher he can trust, he hands in his resignation, which leads to an argument on ethics between Elizabeth and Nathan.

Lee is running off like a fox chasing a chicken.  Rosie is determined to find out where he’s heading, and whether he took last night’s leftovers in his backpack.

Lee and Hickham are on their bikes, with Rosie in hot pursuit.  But first, she enlists Elizabeth, and the latest fashion.

Lee is putting up a real estate sign in the forest, as Hickham announces the presence of a bear.  Or two grown Girl Scouts in camouflage.

It turns out the secret expedition was for Lee to establish “Goldie’s Trail”, in hopes it would show Lucas the importance of fighting for their original National Park plans.

Charleston dance fever has hit the Saloon, inspiring Allie and her friends to consider hosting a dance party, with boys.

Meanwhile, Bill has a heart-to-heart with Nathan about Oliver, whilst grabbing an impeccably located file that likely has something to do with the rare, gold coin.

Nathan attends school to tell Elizabeth he was wrong, wearing a blue shirt that sets off his blue eyes, looking so dreamy….

Lucas works from Minnie’s Internet Cafe, with the bonus of great food, and good advice. It seems Edie is in the same predicament of a lack of office space for her legal practice. Minnie serves them both a lesson in sharing.

Oliver discloses to Nathan that he didn’t graduate school, due to his foster family not permitting him to attend.  They needed him to work their farm, but he realised he wanted more. He lied in his application to the Mounties, to create a better life for himself. He admits to quitting so his lie wouldn’t reflect badly on Nathan.

Lee is questioning his life, worried about whether he’s going to leave a legacy for Goldie one day.  Faith reassures him of his good health, and that it’s a midlife crisis, so maybe he should just buy a convertible.

Superintendent Cranky Pants arrives for Nathan’s report on Oliver.  The new Cadet relays that he would one day like to prove himself worthy of his Constable’s respect.  These two are going to make a great team!

Bill meets with Rosie to show her his file discovery.  The rare, gold coin was part of a stolen collection – 20,000 in total – from a locked safe aboard a secured freight car.  Will the Hope Valley Detective Agency solve the mystery of the Rocky Mountain Train Robbery of 1907?

Nathan takes Elizabeth on a horse-riding date with lots of smooching.  Who needs dinner at a fancy restaurant, when you’ve got the great Canadian outdoors?

Memorable Quotes:

Lucas to Edie: “What I see is a pool shark, posing as a Sunday School teacher.”

Lee to Lucas (about Edwin): “Well, I’m surprised the viper let you out of the snake pit.”

Rosie to Elizabeth (about Lee): “I don’t want him to see me act peculiar.”

Elizabeth’s reply: “I suspect that ship has sailed.”

Nathan to Elizabeth (about Oliver): “It’s my duty to make my Cadet a Mountie.”
