Season 12 Ep5 Recap – Hot Toddies and 007

BY: Rach Kayrooz for GOOD.

Elizabeth is diverting her thoughts from the wolves by preparing a new way of teaching with Project Based Learning.  But Mountie Nathan isn’t a good student, and becomes easily distracted.

Bill and Rosie are playing ‘good cop, bad cop’, interrogating Jed over the stolen gold coin.  It seems Jed has a penchant for counting cards in poker, landing him in the equivalent of hot water – Rosie’s glare!

It turns out a bloke called Toddy Davis from Union City had the gold coin.

Nathan greets Elizabeth with a cheese and chutney sandwich from Grill’d. Then tells her Allie is heading off on a date tonight and he’s not pleased.

That Wyatt Kid!

Lucas is helping Rosie understand his perspective with a Press Release, and encourages him to talk to Lee, to get their bromance back on track.

Elizabeth is discussing The Wolf Project, with the benefits of learning outdoors.  The kids are hoping that climbing trees and building cubby houses is their next assignment.

Nathan, Bill and Rosie are off to drink a hot toddy, or to find a Toddy. Either way, Nathan and his ‘generic face’ are going undercover, to stay on the trail of the stolen gold and the Garrisons!

Fiona (yes, Fiona!) finds Cinderella hobbling along with one shoe, and offers her a lift.  She’s looking for Prince Charming, or a new beginning…

Little Jack feels embarrassed by calling Elizabeth “Mama” in front of the other kids and expresses he’d like to call her “Mrs Thornton” like the other kids.

Oliver drops by the school to hand in his homework, and catches up with Allie. She is tracking the grey wolf, and it seems our Mountie Cadet is quite the expert when it comes to tracking, maps, and GPS.

Fiona is back, and we are all so excited!

She brings in tow a mysterious heiress called Ava, who had her items stolen, just like Elizabeth when she first arrived in town.  She has read Elizabeth’s book and wants to be just like her.  And orders everything on the menu when someone else is paying.

Nathan is getting the rundown on how to move and dress like a high roller, from none other than Drama Queen, Rosie, and Bill.  But that cowboy walk?

Fiona and her sarsaparilla have been caught in the middle of a bar feud between Lee and Lucas and a bunch of unknowing cattle.  She later tells Faith and Mei that she may sell the salon and move to San Francisco.  And get married to ‘a good man’ that she’s turned down twice.

Fiona wants to be somewhere she can make a difference, but why can’t that be HV?

Nathan is rightly suspicious of the town’s new visitor, Ava, and Elizabeth is wary of Wyatt’s intentions with Allie.

Hickam and Joseph lead Lee and Lucas to reconcile on a trail in the woods, leaving them to find their own way back to town.

It’s ‘bring a stranger to work day’ at the school, as Elizabeth takes the kids into the outdoors and unofficial teacher’s aide, Ava, meets with some poison oak.

Nathan aka Danny DeMarco, aka James Bond, is strutting down the main street in his white jacket tux, looking rather suave.

Bill takes him in a chauffeured car to live the high roller life for an evening and hopefully capture Toddy!

Ava is getting the latest cosmetic mud wraps from Faith, with a bottle of calamine lotion to go.

Allie is heading to the soda shoppe to meet Fonzie, Richie, Ralph, and the gang.  But first, Elizabeth attempts a little heart-to-heart about Wyatt, though Allie doesn’t want to hear it.

Nathan is about to deal in on the poker table, whilst back in the woods, Lee and Lucas are competing to win Survivor.  Lee decides to open up and tell Lucas he was hurt when his friend sided with Edwin and decided to ‘shrink’ the National Park.  They make amends, but leave the cow behind, and for good reason.

Ava is overstaying her welcome, and offers to work in the Saloon to pay for her room and board.

Rosie encourages Elizabeth to be a mother figure to Allie when giving advice, but still taking her cues from Nathan’s daughter.

Allie gets the confidence up to ask Wyatt for a picnic, but he sees her as just a kid and has no interest in a date.  Anyone else not like when he calls her ‘pigtails’?

While Nathan is building rapport with a gin and Toddy, Allie arrives at Elizabeth’s, nursing her guitar and a broken heart.  Elizabeth consoles her, offering heartfelt advice. Allie responds that if she was little Jack, she’d call Elizabeth “Mum” all the time.  They settle on calling Mrs Thornton “Elizabeth” when they’re at home.  Cue the tears!

Memorable Quotes:

Jack Jnr (about Ava): “Sounds like they stole everything but her appetite!”

Rosie: “A gambler lays back.  He knows that lady luck is a fickle mistress.”

Joseph: “Sometimes you gotta get lost, so He (God) can lead us back home.”
