Season 12 Ep7 Recap – The Great Shimmy

BY: Rach Kayrooz for GOOD.

The Autumn air is stirring up love, possibilities, and some pollen.

Elizabeth is inspired by her students and their curiosity.

Lee surprised Rosemary with a trip to Broadway, and now she’s opening her own West End production.

Elizabeth’s friends want to see her curriculum guide published.

Fiona is still debating whether to swipe left or right and marry the bloke chasing her, or to stay dateless in HV.

Nathan and Elizabeth continue to look like a couple from a Country Road billboard, advertising this season’s flannelette sheets.

Ava’s still singing for tips at the Saloon, whilst Lee and Hickam realise they have to cut her off (the tab, not the singing).

Rosemary is excited to pin up the audition notices for her production.  But will Ava try to take the lead and Rosemary’s diva status?

And whilst it’s called The Importance of Being Earnest, can Rosie please recognise the importance of being honest, and tell Hickam his British accent isn’t all that good?

Lee hooks Elizabeth up with tickets to the latest Imax in Union City, for a date night with the tickle monster aka Nathan.

Ned is prepping himself for an audition, though Florence isn’t too sure he can remember one line.

Fiona is trying to sell the salon, maybe to become Elizabeth’s literary agent?

The town are auditioning for Rosie, though it’s more a case of “don’t call us, we’ll call you!”  She’s looking for swash-buckling and bold; did she consider either of these two?

Allie and Oliver are mapping out the salmon, cows and how far it is on the GPS to the nearest Grill’d.

Georgie sent a report to Bill, notifying him that two double-headed eagle coins have shown up in Amsterdam!

Rosie approaches him and his espionage-accent to partake in her production, in a way that only producers know how.

Joseph and Henry have been persuaded to build the set for the play, with Joseph using the opportunity to suggest Henry join the Church Choir.

Allie and Oliver go to the Governor’s office, to inform him of a wildlife corridor the cows can take to access the ranch, without disturbing the spawning salmon.  At this point, Lucas should fire Edwin and hire these two as his policy advisors!

Nathan and Elizabeth are on their date night, dancing in the street, when they’re interrupted by Toddy and his wife, Trudy.  Now our favourite couple are role-playing Danny and Diane, with Toddy’s news of some rare coins he brought back from the Netherlands. And an invitation to a party.

Rosie is directing the men in her production, as Ava chimes in, hoping for her big break.  And to kick Rosie out of her lead role. Maybe someone should tell her not to burn the bridges in showbiz?

Meanwhile, it’s the Great Gatsby at Toddy’s mansion, with Nathan and Elizabeth not quite prepared for what they’re getting themselves into.  At least Nathan looks the part of 007.

And Elizabeth is ready for her debut on the big screen.

Lucas and Edie are at Minnie’s, with our Governor hopeful that his proposal for the new cattle pathway will reach a settlement with the ranchers.  However, Edie isn’t all too helpful, despite the obvious connection between these two.  Is there something more to Ms Martell than she’s letting on? Why is she running off to a pretend zoom meeting at dinner time?

Back at the mansion, Nathan and Elizabeth are being cross-examined by criminal Toddy, regaling their love story and favourite song, only to have Toddy request they sing it in front of everyone.

The lovebirds manage to convince everyone they are Danny and Diane, high school and bachelor auction sweethearts and occasional karaoke champs.

Edie makes a late night visit to Lucas’ office for a game of cards, rather than settling the National Park proposal. However, Lucas picks up on Edie’s ‘tell’ and questions her about her hesitation.  Her true colours show through, as she asks Lucas to forget about The Meadows.

Rosie is still bothered by Ava, maybe because she reminds our Mrs Coulter of her younger self?

Nathan manages to get some info out of Toddy, and a first-hand view of a gold pocket watch, which is part of a stolen loot.

Rosie’s reflecting on her days as a Hollywood starlet, as Mei counsels Fiona and encourages her to wait for love, and for the right husband.

Fiona receives a call from Mr Weaver, to announce the salon has been sold.  Mei reminds her, that as one adventure ends, another begins.

Elizabeth and Rosie spill the tea on their escapades, with Elizabeth reminding Rosie that she was once like Ava when she arrived in town.

Elizabeth shares that she posted her curriculum to the publishers, thanks to the support of her friends. This inspires Rosie to break down her guard, and “offer the careless heiress” a role in the play.

As the two mothers and best friends look over at their children playing happily, they look forward to more adventures together.

Memorable Quotes:

Henry (to Joseph): “Trust me, my singing is not going to bring anybody closer to God on the mountain.”

Lucas (to Allie and Oliver): “The last time you unrolled maps at me, I ended up in a lot of hot water.”

Mei (to Fiona): “You have a spark, and I think you should follow it.”

Fiona (to Elizabeth, to Rosie): “Leap and the net will appear.”
